Butuan City, Philippines — In a groundbreaking move aimed at fortifying their discipleship framework, district pastors within the Northeastern Mindanao Mission (NEMM) have embarked on a transformative journey by placing a renewed emphasis on Care Groups. This strategic initiative represents a significant evolution in NEMM’s systematic discipleship program, which first took root in 2016, from mission-wide efforts to the local church level.
A Deeper Commitment
After an exhaustive review process spanning nearly a decade—from 2016 to 2024—it became evident that while the existing discipleship cycle at the departmental level was functional, a more profound impact was necessary. The forthcoming phase of implementation, slated for 2024, zeroes in on optimizing the role of Care Groups.
Pr. Max Dante B. Obbus, the executive secretary of the Southwestern Philippines Union Conference (SWPUC), lent his expertise during a recent seminar attended by all 22 district pastors, Pr. Obbus underscored the crucial role of Care Groups within the discipleship program. He emphasized their organizational structure and functionality within and outside the church, supervised by the Power of 70—the core group within the discipleship cycle.
A Bright Future
As NEMM continues to elevate its discipleship journey, the focus on Care Groups promises to deepen integration, foster community, and empower every member to become a vibrant disciple-maker. Stay tuned for further developments to a transformative spiritual growth and impact path.
