Butuan City Seventh –Day Adventist Church at Tamarind Road, Butuan City under the leadership of Pastor Bernabe Dahunan is wonderfully blessed to have donors from U.S. who liberally gave their blessings to support evangelism here in our mission territory particularly in Barangays surrounding Butuan City.
The first crusade started last August 29 at Pangabugan , Butuan City which was sponsored by Jay Salcedo from U.S. Pastor Jerry Patalinghug SPUC Youth Director was the speaker. It lasted for 2 weeks. The theme of the Crusade was Healthy Lifestyle, and World beyond Tomorrow. 65 precious souls accepted Jesus through baptism at the end of the crusade.
The second crusade followed after the last night at Pangabugan in Dulag barangay a few kilometers away from Butuan City going to Tungao. Pastor Ephraim Paquibo , the SPUC Sabbath School Director/ASI Coordinator handled the nightly seminar lecture who enthusiastically presented the series of lectures about Happy Family and Healthy Lifestyle. “ I choose these topics on Family life because this holds no prejudices to any listener.” Pastor Paquibo said.
This project in Dulag is conceptualized by the ASI members of NeMM, Caraga Region XIII, Mindanao, Philippines to have a church in this place after a crusade is made here. ASI-Butuan City Chapter followed up this plan. In fact before this crusade, few brethren were regularly attending Sabbath services in a form of cottage meeting which is the result of the Small Group and the ASI members of Butuan City Church. This is located in the lot donated by Butuan City Church members Bro.and Mrs. Nestor Medina.
Dulag before is hard for evangelists to penetrate but now the residents are open to any religion to preach Gospel in
the community.
Pastor Elpedio M. Galinato, the energetic retired church Pastor who now becomes ASI President throughout the mission actively supported the Crusade. Of course with the active leadership of Church Pastor Bernabe Dahunan. A total of 67 precious souls were baptized as a result of Dulag crusade.
Prior to the opening of these 2 crusades was a free clinic in each of the venues conducted by NeMM Health Director Nimrod V. Saramosing who is very enthusiastic with regards to having this kind of health services to barangays. He was aided by nurses volunteers and Dentist. “ I am very much impressed to the accommodation offered to us by Barangay Captain Amada I. Melendrez in Pangabugan.”, said Pastor Saramosing. The “TANODS” were busy guarding the Gym and going around the neighboring houses to keep them from turning their radios and television to loud sound.
Who could imagine it that a Barangay Captain could influence her councilmen including herself to attend the seminar? And that’s what she did. At the end of the seminar she gave 3 awards to Seminarians during the culmination program aside from what she gave nightly.
