For quite a long time now in the Caraga regional territory of the Philippines , only few members of the Seventh-Day Adventist Churches have availed of a training that enhances their skills in news and feature writing and e- Publication. It was only this time that the dreams of some have come to reality.
Two months ago, the Southern Asia Pacific Division (SSD) Communication Department offers to Northeastern Mindanao Mission ( NEMM) of Seventh –Day Adventists located in the Caraga Region it’s plan to hold a seminar on writing and e- Publication . The offer was warmly accepted by NEMM , so it was conducted at Northeastern Mindanao Academy (NEMA) Los Angeles , Butuan City last Seprember 16 to 17, 2008. “ Building Bridges of Hope” is the theme.
It was just a couple of months preparation to invite enthusiasts to join the seminar. 110 delegates from all over the mission territory responded and came over to attend.. It was well attended by different age groups ranging from elementary and high school students who are mostly members of the school editorial staff, teachers, church members, pastors, office secretaries, department directors, and administrators
The eldest participant is a retired teacher, a public school district supervisor, Mrs Elizabeth Amores who attended because she was attracted to news writing. “ I’ll have to attend this, who knows I could earn more money through writing “,she said. But later after the seminar she realized that there is something in the seminar that challenged her to become God’s instrument for others to know about Jesus coming.
Dr. Jonathan C. Catolico , SSD communication and PARL Director and Editor- SSD Outlook and News Dispatch conducted the seminar. Together with him were Mr. Reuben Pagaduan, chair Tradigital Fine Arts of Adventist University of the Phillipines (AUP) and Mr. Raymark Bagoyado , IT specialist and owner / Manager of Micobagz computer, Cebu City.
The lecturers presented their topics with enthusiasm that makes it very lively, leading the participants to become more attentive and responsive. It was a very informative and substantial lecture to the participants especially to those who for the first time have attended this kind of seminar workshop.
It is really very important to enhance one’s skills in writing, that through this medium he can reach other people to know more about the Lord.
“If these are introduced to us before when we were young we could have availed of the enjoyment and satisfaction earlier in sharing the good news through writing and e-publication” , commented one pastor, Pastor Rogelio Jimenez, stewardship director of NEMM.
